Gavin wins 2025 Critics Circle Award

This week the 2025 Critics Circle Awards took place at London's Coliseum in which Gavin was award the Emerging Talent Composition CiritIcs Circle Award. The Critics Circle Awards have been running for decade and sees instrumentalists, composers, and conductors receive awards from some of the UK's leading music critics.

The critics said of Gavin that 2024 was, "his best year yet" after first seizing "the wider musical world's attention at the BBC Proms in 2014". The judging panel said they were "charmed and thrilled by the poetic suggestiveness of Higgins's music as well as its unbuttoned energy, and utterly assured handling of whatever medium Higgins chooses to express himself in." This included his trombone quartet 'Black Sun' and the 'Horn Concerto' with the panel saying they look forward to "great things in the future".

Other winners include Laura van der Heijen (instrumentalist), Mishka Rushdie Momen (piano), John Findon (male singer), Jess Dandy (female voice), Charlotte Corderoy (conductor), Welsh National Opera (oepra) and sir Thomas Allen (lifetime achievement).
