Gavin has been commissioned to write a major new work for the BBC Proms 2022. His 35 minute Concerto Grosso will be performed by the BBC National Orchestra of Wales and his long time collaborators, the Tredegar Town Band. Fiona Maddocks in the Guardian and Richard Morrison in the Times both selected Prom for their Top Picks of the season and it’s set to be a spectacular evening.
This is the first time a work for brass band and orchestra has been commissioned for the Proms and the first time in over a decade a brass band has performed to the Proms audience. It is also Gavin’s first major commission as part of his residency as Composer in Association with the orchestra. Further performances with European co-commissioners are also planned.
The premiere will take place on 8th August at the Royal Albert Hall and will be conducted by Ryan Bancroft. Tickets can be found on the BBC Proms website.
