Gavin’s Concerto Grosso for Brass Band and Orchestra, which premiered at the Proms last year, has been shortlisted for a Royal Philharmonic Award in the Large-Scale Compositions category. The piece was performed by the BBC National Orchestra of Wales and the Tredegar Town Band and was conducted by Ryan Bancroft at the Royal Albert as part of the 2022 BBC Proms Season.
Previous winners include George Benjamin, Harrison Birtwistle, Kaija Saariaho, Gérard Grisey, Witold Lutoslawski, and Olivier Messiaen. The winner will be announced at the South Bank Centre on the 1st March.
